First you must rip the dvd so put the dvd in to the drive and then start Smart Ripper.
Make sure that you select a folder on your hard where you want the film to go. you should you  leave all the setting as the are but pick the movie setting button so you only rip the film you don't need any thing else.

You do need to have a dvd drive that is unlocked most drives are, it won't unlock the vob file other wise OK,  now that you have ripped, now start up dvd2avi click on open find the files you have ripped and select the first one it will add the lot, OK now you need to press OK.

The film will load up, next go to the file icon and select save project the program will now run it will take a while, OK now you have change the files in to video and sound, next step is to use tmpgenc open this up if you have the new version there is a wizard section just pick vcd option but if you are using the old version start with new project
now select the video where you have store it it should be in the same folder as the first folder when you ripped the film to, select that then the same with the sound now you have both files make sure for vcd that you select the sound to be 44100 in the audio setting the video must be set to vcd mpeg not mpeg 1 OK now select a out put folder and just press start it will take hours the faster your PC the faster it will encoder
when finished you will end up with mpeg file .

Now you must spilt the file ,its to big for a CD, so go to the file icon and now select mpeg tools go to the merge section and just add the file you have just made simple move the bar a long select the start and the finished and run it then do this again for the second part, hey you have to bits now make sure when you select the output to use to different names OK now just burn the file with nero make sure you select the vcd bit and put the file into there now nero will check the file and burn it do this twice and now you have a vcd rip of a dvd.


If you want better quality when using tmpeg just go to the setting and select the motion search to slow or if it says on your version highest quality but this ail take longer to encode, ,if want to encode to svcd just do all the same but select svc or mpeg 2 and set the audio to 44100 ,for mpeg to dvd make sure you encode to mpeg 1 for lower resolution that will save space on a dvdr but if you want better quaintly go for mpeg 2

If you need to make vcd or svcd to a dvdr  first rip the file from CDs to do this open the CD up then on vcd just copy the file that is in mpegav folder or svcd is in the mpeg fold do this for both parts no use tmepg start it up then use mpeg tools first merge the files into one big file then use de-mupilex to split the sound and picture now you must recode the sound so use the audio setting only and encode the sound but it must now be encoded to 48000 and dual layers OK do that in setting now you have a new sound file so you must put the sound and picture back together so now use multiplex and join the two file up now you will have new file just burn it with your author burn program for svcd you need to change the headers the start of the file must be changed so that the author will let you use the file,to do this use a program called dvdr patcher make sure when you patch it that the film you a patching is pal or nstc this will ahve to be right ok now you can author it,
